    Hi fuddle

It's really weird, but the fabric of that coat is almost identical to some my mum had xxx years ago that I used in school sewing class to make....a short skirt very like yours! *hums Twilight Zone music*

If you're going for sewdirect, then I think I'll join you and ask SiL if she's up for it later. I bought a sewing book last week from club that comes into playschool, not clothes but all sorts of quick-to-make things for the home. There's an amazing tipi pattern, all straight lines and shove a few lengths of dowelling in - project for next summer methinks!

Me too cheaps I've seen something similar, the kids would love it. Beats having the fleece blankets wrapped around the dining room table to make a tent!

I think sewdirect is worth it just for the patterns. I'm wanting that poncho and I fancy the knicker pattern. I could save a fortune making my own knickers!

Fuddle its terrific, the seams look really neat and straight too. With the coat top you could have bought some fun fur to make it bigger and made a waistcoat with 'fur' trim worn with a belt. That way you could extend it both width ways and length ways too. You should be really pleased with yourself:T

This is a great thread and I am getting quite a lot of ideas.:j
  • That skirt looks great FUDDLE. A really good way to transform something into something usable. If you do need to insert a zip just unpick the top section of the back seam and insert it there. Could be a bit fiddly but well worth it when you're parading about in a new 'me made' skirt!

I've tried to post a pic of a few of my Sorbetto tops I mentioned. Hopefully it will work and they won't be too mahoosive! I've used different methods on each - contrast bias binding on the cherry blossom, hidden satin bias binding on the eiffel tower print and I just overlocked and sewn down the edges on the blue swirly pattern. Pls ignore the fact they need a good ironing!

bumbles they are super. Which binding method do you find the easiest?

miasnanny I go to http://imageshack.us/ upload from my computer then press insertimage.gif on the MSE post box and put the 'direct code' that imageshack gives you for your image.

It's a lot easier than it sounds. HTH :)

    Hi fuddle,

Your skirt looks great! As the thread has now dropped down the Old Style board I've added it to the main 'make your own clothes' thread where you'll find lots of tips and advice that should help in your challenge. Good luck!

Hi, I'm thinking of making a few items of clothing for myself, this blog was the inspiration!
    http://sewing.craftgossip.com/tutorial-twirly-summer-dress-with-cap-sleeves-and-a-circle-skirt/2012/06/14/

I'm a novice, although have made up Shrek & Princess Fiona costumes for DH and myself (old bed sheets and cheapo fleece blankets out of Asa's). No pattern for those, just drew around existing clothing/us. They weren't the neatest, well fitting outfits - but they did the job! :rotfl: Come to think of it, it wasn't well thought out either as the fabrics were all very warm and the day we wore them was one of the hottest that year!

I tend to lurk around here and the other crafty threads mostly, getting ideas and then not getting around to do them :o Really should do something about that....
