Corp tax payment deadline, 1st january?

Is the date corp tax must be paid related to the accounting year?

My accounts run April - April and my corp tax payment date is 1st of January. So for the year April 2006-April 2007 I must pay corp tax before 1st January 2008, or so it states on the reminders I keep getting from the IR.

I ask because it seems such an odd date? the 1st of january is a bank holiday and what with xmas just before etc. My self assessment has the same tax year but the payment date is 31st January. What's the story?

Corporation Tax for small companies is normally payable 9 months and 1 day after the end of your accounting period. If your year end was 31 March 2007 the CT would be payable on or before 1 January 2008.

Different taxes ... different rules. Post #2 is quite correct.

Schedule 'D' tax, which preceded SA always had a due date of 1st January.
