Clearing homemade jelly tips needed please

Hello,
I have been making homemade jellies and some are clearer than others. I drain the liquid through muslin without squeezing, and use butter at the end to clear the scum BUT someone told me a tip about something you put in at the end to clear it and I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT!
It may have been bicarb or something like that. Does anyone know?
Thank you

Traditionally it's egg white - never done it myself, but a google search gives this reference, amongst others. I assume it works by the protein in the scum being attracted into the protein in the egg white.

Was doing something else, and the word *clarifying* came into my head, so I found this method using egg white.
