TV License

Options
I used to live in a flat and pay my TV License monthly. When I moved out, I cancelled the Direct Debit (without informing the TV License people) thinking that every thing would be fine.

A few weeks ago I was talking about this with a friend and he said I should of people the TV Licensing people to cancel it.

Now I am wondering if they would of still sent me bills to my old flat, and I am wondering if they may have served me with a court order. If they did I did not get any notice (because I moved out) and they may have served me with a CCJ without be being on court.

Do you think they have??? I have requested a copy of my credit report and it should be with me in the next week.

They usually just write to you telling you that you licence is no longer valid at that property and warn you that camera detectors will be in your area.

Why not give them a call to explain anyway - better to make sure in the long run!

This is the problem my hubby always has.

Always always always inform people when you cancel a direct debit / subscription!

He never does it and it's caused us so many problems!!!

You can transfer a TV licence, it saves a lot of potential hassle later on.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA that's a good one - exactly what I did and they still sent the letter (which I replied to as mentioned in the vent board a while back) and the van with the spinning roofrack round.

The TVLO knocked on the door and said "According to our records indicate that you have no TV licence"

To which my response (cleaned up) was "My records indicate that your records are utter crap and have been for at least six weeks, I have a valid TV licence and informed you of the change of address on <date> at <time> and got reference <x>, I responded to your menacing letter of <date> with that information by return of post. Next waste of my time is chargeable at my standard rate. Goodbye."

If they're gonna try and scare people they could at least have the brains to have the correct information.

In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice
