Hiya,
I was hoping somebody might be able to help me, from what I have seen there seems to be a lot of crafty people on this board.
I am making my own wedding invitations and I have 2 questions
1) I need about 200 sheets of A4 card in a cream/Ivory marble effect, the cheapest I have found is £57.45 (29p per sheet) does anybody know any cheaper sites?
2) I need to make holes big enough to thread 3mm ribbon through, I bought a single hole punch from staples but the holes are too big and you can’t really aim IYSWIM, I saw an eyelet maker in Hobbycraft yesterday that said it made 3.2mm holes, but it was £13, is there something I can get a bit cheaper that will get the job done?
Thank you in advance for any, I thought making them would be fun! :rotfl:

Firstly are you sure you need that many sheets of card?? How many people are you inviting? (don't calculate "I am inviting 100 people so I need 100 invites" because I bet loads of them are couples so you might only need 50 or 60 if you see what I mean?)
Or there is one of the chains who let you go in and fill a container thingy they sell for £5.99 - not sure how much fits in there... there is a shop for them in Bicester near the Wyevale garden centre if that's any help?
again with the holes... where, how and why would make it easier to work out if there is an alternative to the £13 punchDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Hi Tine,
I have worked 200 sheets based on 80 invites for 130 guests as follows –
80 Sleeves = 80
80 Invites = 60
Place cards 30 = 5
Order of the day 40 = 40
Thank you cards 80 = 20
Total 205 sheets
Sleeve is an A4 sheet cut to 16cm wide & 26.5 length, folded at 10cm lengthways to make an envelope, this then needs 4 small holes down each double layered edge, I will then thread ribbon though in a criss cross to hold it together. Does that make sense?
I will then print the invites, directions ect 4 to a page making A6 size, I will need three of these per invite, they will have a hole punched in the top left corner and threaded with ribbon, these will then slide into the sleeve.
Place cards 6 per page
Order of the day as invites but 4x A6 and thank you card a single A6. but without the sleeve.
I’m sorry I’m not very good at explaining

No that's fine! It's just that it is one of the most common mistakes when doing invites is that "oh I am inviting 100 people so 100 invites etc"... I know cos I nearly did it myself :rotfl:
Right instead of making thank you cards have you thought of picking a nice picture of you both from the wedding or when you are on honeymoon and having it printed as a postcard and sending that to everyone?
SO the sleeves are infact the envelope if I understand you right (like the idea!)?
That means that you are looking for 2 or 3 different types of paper but in the same colour? I am so glad I went for ice white now as the directions etc can be printed on standard paper in our case. Because of the weight of paper then I would think the easiest route is looking up all the craft shops online and seeing who are within driving distance to you. Speak to them and see if they can get what you want if they don't have it - my local craft shop are often willing to do that for me
I'll have a look out for the punch thingy!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Hi,
I always go to a Paperbox shop for my card. Is there one by you. You can get a box full of card for about £6. Don't know if they have a website, may be worth a search.0 -
Try the Papermill shop (google for online) even with delivery, this will be far cheaper! They do great quality paper and card. Good luck!0

For the last ones I did, I sewed them together with a large needle and ribbon rather than punch them - significantly less work and the holes are very small and mainly covered by the ribbon. Much easier to aim than a punch too.
That's quite a lot for card - you might want to think about simply sourcing card blanks - we have a works bookshop near us that sells the blanks plus envelopes 100 for £8 - the quality is fine with the added advantage that they are already professionally creased so you don't have to fold them yourself, which can be hard to do tidly.:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
Hi ,
For punching holes I use a very old Leather punch that my Dad had.
I think its for making holes in belts etc.Might be worth asking around to see if anyone has one in a shed or toolbox.
Its much more acurate than a paper punch and makes various sized holes.
Also do try Papermill for card/paper as susggested above.

I agree with getting the paper/card from the pick n mix type shop you get tons for your money. Another option is to get a nice photo print it in black and white and get copies from place like Asda. Then use an overlay of Vellum, slightly opaque, with the wedding invite printed on top. These are then fastened together with holes punched and ribbon, in colour scheme, threaded through. We also did this for the order of service and thank yous for my sons wedding.Nothing Changes if Nothing Changes0
