How to find out who you owe...

This is an awful thing to say, but as the last 2 years have been a bit of a blur and my ex was dealing with a lot of my debts whilst I was suffering from Post Natal Depression. I dont know the extent of what I owe, who to and how much, the debts seem to have been sold on so many times I dont know what is what. :o

Is there any way I can find out exactly how much and to who?

My friend said Experian and Equifax will only give me limited details. i want to mke sure everything is covered before I submit...any ideas where to go from here?

Thanks everyone.

  • There are 3 credit reference agencies - Experian, Equifax and Callcredit. Getting a report from all 3 will give you a full picture and then you'll have a better idea of where you stand.

I have seen in other posts that there is a website that will do the search of all 3 agencies for you but I can't remember the name. Can anyone help?

EDIT: Just so you know, even if you forget a couple of creditors on your petition, the OR will usually track them down. Even if they don't, all debts are included in your BR so if they do contact you after the fact, all you have to do is let them know you are BR and point them in the direction of your OR.

Current balance: approx £17500 including Tax Credit Overpayment

Estimated DFD: never - deficit budget. Cheers HMRC!

Another year over and we're still together. It's not always easy, but I'm here forever

Also if you can get to the post (and face opening it:rolleyes: ) you'll soon find out who you owe to. As the letters tend to come thick and fast you'll probably know within a week or two.
Its the ORs job to inform creditors and contact them, but i can understand where your coming from.
I'd had many of my debts passed on, but when i filled in my forms i just put down who the original creditors were then left it to the OR to do the rest (and so far, bless him, he seems to have done his job)
Hope that helps for now, but maybe someone else has a shortcut to this problem.
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(

Apart from the CRA's there's not a lot more you can really do.

These things sometimes get sold on so many times that even the original creditor often doesn't know who currently holds the debt.

  • Thanks guys - great advice as per usual.

I thought that I had to make a list that was concise of all my creditors to present to the OR, and if any were left off, I would have to go BR again if I couldnt afford to pay...am I wrong about this?

Does anyone know of the website that includes all 3?

You need to give as much info as you realistically can, but if all you know is the original creditor and the fact that it has been sold on to someone, then that will do.

All provable debts at the time of the petition are legally included, whether you can provide full, partial, or no details.
If an unknown debt from before the BR pops up later it is still included. You would just need to inform the OR.

You will not need to go BR again for any debt that is currently outstanding.

As far as I know it's easier, cheaper, and more comprehensive to obtain the £2 paper copy from each CRA.
