Not a money saver more a dilemna

If this is on the wrong board forgive me. i would like your thoughts/advice. I had a problem with my cars brakes when on way to a party.When i arrived there was a "mechanic" there a friend of the hosts who said he would take a look at it so i left it with him as i was working away. He phoned and asked was the car due a servuice which i said it did he said he would service it too. I was working away but he took 2 weeks to fix the brake problem. When i got car back it was "noisy" i thought it was me, until i got his invoice when it transpired he had put the wrong oil in the car, my car is sensitive to having the right, and very expensive oil!! I asked him about invoice he said it was written down wrong and had put the right stuff in, however when challenged he said he would put the right oil in it, thus admitting it WAS the wrong stuff. I have taken advice and it is likely his actions have caused damage to the engine, i have not at this time paid his bill. There is going to be a cost for the investiagtion/repairs which i dont think i should pay for. I also have the added problem of him being a friend of friends, i should add that he has spent money on parts to fix brakes which it seems he has. What i dont know is did he service the carand change oil as requested so do Ia) take the costs for the repairs to my car off his billb) refuse to pay his bill apart from brake parts as he has lied once and i dont know what he has done by way of servicec) explain to friends the problem as there will be an atmosphere when we next all meetAny ideas suggestions
