Party games ideas wanted please 6th b/day

Im looking for any ideas not matter how silly.
Im already in planning mode for dd 6th birthday and its not until Dec!!
We have not had a at home party since my boys were young and they are now 10,10 and 12 and i really miss them.;)

I have done the wacky ware house type partys for them but the one the boys remember are the home partys, yes they can cost more if done right and means alot of hard work but they are so much fun and worth it just for the memory value.

My list of ideas so far include.

1-A craft corner- This will be where the kids if they want to or dont want to join in with other games can go and stick glue and create a party mask.Adult will be present in this corner at all times.

2-Also in the craft corner will be print offs of a birthday cake which throughout the party the kids can go and colour in and stick on one of the walls in the hall there will then be a prize for the best coloured in one. Again this allows kids who dont want to join in as much to go and do something without the pressure of everyone watching them.

3-Games to include musical chairs, pass the parcel ( a sweet in every sheet of cause and well trained friends to help make sure very child gets a turn. )Musical spot this is where each child has a spot ( i use the small plastic football cones but anything can be used) the have to be able to put them on their head. When the music stops they grab a spot and place it on their head, you remove a few on each turn and will then get a winner.

4-Food- They are may ways of doing this a buffet laid out on a table where kids help theirselfs, or plates can be made up before hand, you can request the child lets you know what sandwich filling they want on the invite.
Im going for the help yourself option and will then set out a table with tablecloth for the kids to sit at, they will also have crackers (bought in the sales) and adults will go round serving drinks.

5-Silly stuff- As long as you have willing adults or older children you can take this as far as you wish-the game my dd cant wait for is when i will split the guests into teams and each team will be `given` one of the birthday girls older brothers, i will then explain how dd always wanted a sister but instead got 3 horrible brothers so the teams task is to give the birthday girl sisters for the day!! I will then provide them with make up skirts wigs, heels ect and each team will have 5 miutes to turn the boys into girls!! ( i havent told my boys yet!!But they do it or no spendo!!lol) Team games i think are a great idea and gets everyone to join in.

Then you have to provide music, make up cds with what the kids like and the must have party songs eg timewarp, opps up side your head ect and make sure the adults lead the way, the kids are more likly to join in if you have a few silly adults ( which im not short off!!).:p

These are just what i remember from partys i did many years ago and really want to make sure i get this one right because as said before its such a shame kids dont experience proper party, i wont even tell you about the batman party i did once apart from i went way over top and dressed as catwoman and turned my kitchen into the batcave....i think you get the idea just how bonkers i am!!!:rotfl: :rotfl:

It sounds like you've already got it well in hand - love the big sister game :rotfl:

If you've got room, and a couple of fit and willing adults, then What's The Time Mr Wolf went down really well at my sons 6th birthday last year.

Corners was another popular one - choose four points in the room, and mark them (colour/a person, or something to do with the party theme). The music plays and the kids dance in the centre of the room. When the music stops, they all have to run to the point of their choice, then someone who hasn't been watching calls out one of them - everyone there is out. You continue the game until there is a winner. It can also be played as islands using coloured paper on the floor.

And I was surprised how many of them were eager to play the pin the tail games I had up - really didn't think they'd get touched.

I agree with the craft corner - saviour of many a shy child and exhausted adult :D

Good luck and enjoy - and you're not mad planning this early - I'm doing the same (April and September, but been thinking them through since the last ones).

    :)

  • Sorry I've no suggestions, but I'd just like to say that you've got some great ideas there.
The sister game will be a riot!

Draw the Tail on the Donkey - back of a roll of wallpaper, different coloured crayons for each child
Musical Bumps / Statues - good to wear them out a little before eating
Simon Says - good for after eating as quite calm!
