This relates to the post about free range chicken, in light of Hugh's 'Chicken Out' campaign.
It's great that people are finally getting to know about the horrors of factory farming, and I respect Hugh for bringing this to the public's attention. Groups like Viva! have been investigating factory farms for years and have unfortunately found much worse conditions than that on Hugh's farm. They've also visited free range farms and have found similar conditions.
It's worth noting that the (approx) 22 million factory farmed turkeys that are killed each year are kept in similar conditions, see http://www.viva.org.uk/video/stuffed.html and ducks too, see: http://www.viva.org.uk/campaigns/ducks/intro.htm
Many people have commented on the high cost of a free range chicken (£8+) but they're inevitably going to be expensive if the chickens are kept well, so it's much cheaper to be vegetarian.
