It's an enormous papaya! You can eat it as it is, in a fruit salad, in a smoothie. And ypu can plant the seeds - they germinate really easily and give a beautifully decorative houseplant.

Wow you peeps are amazing..... thank you so much for the replies so far. Yes it is absolutely enormous (its about 12inces long ).... I have never seen anything this big in the supermarkets:rotfl: and I have never bought a papaya or mango in my life so have no idea what they should look like. My next door neighbours gave it to me as a pressie and I was tooooooo embarassed
to ask her what is was! I will be making a lovely salad with it and planting some of those seeds. OH is really interested in the aphodisiac qualities of it :rotfl:

Definitely a papaya - doesn't have too much taste by itself, but is good in salads. Can also be steamed & pureed as first food for young babies (6mths plus) or fresh for older babies.
My daughter loved it. Especially when pureed with apple or banana.0 -
its a papaya, I love them.
Smoothie
1 papaya
1 banana
1 mango
a little crushed ice if you have it
Drink whilst alone in a warm bath close eyes...Think beach, sea shore, palm trees....Bliss0 -
Chopped papaya, cooked with tough pieces of meat, contains enzymes that tenderises it. So if you have an old cockerel or dried up old cow, and you want to make some tender stew out of them, there you go!
