Have just received notification that this company says that if you have kids born between 1985 and 2003 that the taxman can owe you 'up to £1500' !!

the website is www.taxrefundsdirect.co.uk

is this right?

has anyone had experience of this?

Thanks:confused:

  • There seem to be a few of these companies knocking around now.

If its legit, they look into your personal details and tax payments and see if they can get you some tax back, of course they take a % of it.

Looks like they take a 30% cut, see here for more discussion:

You need to be certain that you didn't claim it first time around. If I remember correctly then your tax coding was amended. There was a lot of publicity about it at the time but I know a lot of people who didn't claim it.

I personally wouldn't use any company to claim back something which you can do yourself and which will not cost you to do (except in time). Speak to your local tax office about it and do a search around the internet. Also check yours/partners previous P60s etc.

If you need tax advice then the sources of advice are:

    HMRC

    TaxAid http: www.taxaid.org.uk/

Tax Help for Older People https://www.taxvol.org.uk/

    Chartered Institute of Taxation www.tax.org.uk/

The company you mention are unqualified and I would personally not use an unqualified tax adviser any more than I would use an unqualified dentist!

I used a company like this in my less enlightened days. They messed me around for about a year, lost a couple of P60s and then failed to get me any kind of refund.
    Do it yourself.
  • Such a minefield...For the sake of (supposedly) £500 rebate I am owed (if its to be believed) I could probably use the time more usefully to actually earn that amount! :)

    Great links though Cook_County...thanks
