Changing from widows benefit to retirement pension

Will soon reach the big 60 so my Widow's Benefit will change to Retirement Benefit, from what I can make out it will be the same amount. I intend to continue working part-time, will I be any better off or will things stay much the same?

Once passed 60 will I still pay the same NI contributions? I suppose I'll save my company pension contributions each month but still be taxed on my pension.

Ask for a pension forecast and claim it here:

If your own pension gives you less than your late husband's then you should get his rate. The state pension is not means tested,so you should be better off. No NI conts are payable after 60.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)

You won't pay NI contributions if you're over 60. If you're not taking your company pension things will be much the same but you should be a bit better off with no NI to pay.

  • You don't pay NI once you are 60.

And if your total income is above your persoanl allowance then you will be taxed on it.
