January is traditionally the month where the clubs, and the rave hungry disciples that frequent them, retreat for a month or so and take stock of what's just hit, before tentatively dipping their toes in again with quieter parties to ease the party process back in.
Circus though, is no ordinary club. Where others might put on a quieter affair as the first party of 2008, the inaugural event for a year pushing the city of Liverpool into the spotlight is something of a monstrosity.
Boasting a staggeringly good line-up for any time of the year let alone the 'quiet' period. Further proof, if you ever needed it, that these boys are hell bent on staying in the big time.
Headlining is Laurent Garnier with the French maestro playing a very special five hour set in the Theatre. Having already etched his name evocatively into the Circus folklore with a string of extended sets in the past, it seems only apt that it is he again given the keys to the kingdom, so to speak, and allowed a full 5 hours to play with the Circus masses.
Making this gig approaching near legendary status is the fact that it unites two names (and technically three people) on a club bill for the first time. One of only three DJ sets they are doing all year.
Whilst being dynamite live, their globe trotting antics have honed the focus of Simon and Felix's deck debauchery, their style an amalgamation of house, funk, R+B, disco and so much more. Since 1994 they have grown into one of the world's most exciting duos and the chance to see them - together, in Liverpool - represents the gig which will long be spoken of in clubbing lore. Don't miss this.
