I need to find a cheap conditioner

Hi,
Now I know this is not a life or death question, but I'd love to find a cheaper conditioner. I am spending a lot on my current conditioner and would like to cut down. I need something that is extra moisturizing as my hair gets dry. If I use a rubbish one my hair is a nightmare to brush after washing. I am currently using Pantene Brunette range - which I love, but it's not always on offer. What's your fave conditioner? ;)

I like Tresemme conditioners - you can get massive bottles in Wilkinsons and they were BOGOF last week, maybe still are - about £3 for a litre bottle!
Debt at LBM July 2013: [STRIKE]£46,085.88[/STRIKE] Debt today: £36,501.67

    20.8% down, 79.2% to go!

The quicker I'm debt free, the quicker I'll be Mrs. H! Date to beat: April 2018
  • Thanks - I've never tried Tresemme - Boots have an offer on just now too. I will give it a try.

If you have never been ,try the Boots thread on the Grabbit board and the Tescos thread on the discount board.Once you get the hang of it you can get your favourites for next to nothing.....or even nothing!!!!
    :j I love bargains:j
    I love MSE
  • Wilkinsons or home bargains for branded stuff, but TBH we have had Boots and tesco "value" type ones and they are fine too- you get through bucket loads nit combing kids:rotfl:

I have heard that fabric conditioner (presumably watered down a bit) does the jon too, but I've not tried it!
  • Don't buy a cheap one, splash out abit and it will last you longer. I use redken All soft coditioner. It is abot £13.00 for a 250ml bottle but it lasts me about a year. You really only need a tiny blob. So quite economical in the long run.
If you can't stretch to that try Aussie 3 minute miracle. Its about £4.00 but should last a long time and is often on offer.

Boots own brand Coconut and Almond Oil conditioner is one of the best I've ever used and value wise it's certainly the best at £1.29 a bottle (and it's often on BOGOF too!)

Tresemme is very good, and often on offer (there is a BOGOF at Tescos at the moment).

One super cheap thing you might try is using olive oil or camellia oil on your hair. I use a tiny amount of this (few drops), rub it into my fingers, and massage into my hair and scalp immediately after washing. No static, its all natural, and most importantly for me, I get less shedding during washing (I find that conditioner makes me hair shed a lot)
We got rid of the kids. The cat was allergic. ;)

    Debt at LBM (Sep 07): £13,500. Current debt: [STRIKE]£680[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£480[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£560[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£13[/STRIKE] £0 overdraft :D
Current aims - to start building up savings

If you can find it in the supermarkets - buy something called Fruits - it is an Australian brand that is 100% natural. I used to use Redken but could no longer afford it and instead I tried one of their shampoo & conditioners. They cost 99p and last a good long while. I used to use a Fruits all in one shampoo but they stopped making it so I contacted them in Australia and they sent me the last remaining bottle in their warehouse (I have had this in my bathroom now for about 6 months and it is still going strong) - I was really impressed with their service.

I have seen the following Fruits shampoos & conditioners - Peach, Apple and Strawberry - Tescos, Sainsburys and Morrisons usually have them in.

An aussie 3 minute miracle can be ordered for free on the freebie forum although I cannot find the link. I know that Boots also have an offer on the Aussie brand as do Tesco.

There really isn't any need to spend such a ridiculous amount on a conditioner. If you read the ingredients, there is very little variation between the salon and 'normal' brands.

As someone with very coarse dry hair I've bought a whole pile of salon and premium brands. I've found Tressemme and the Boots Coconut brand just as good. I've also had good results from brands designed for afro-carribeam hair.

However, here's my (and my hairdresser's) top tip. If you need intensive conditoning, try using olive oil (or almond oil or similar). Before washing, rub it into a dry hair and scalp and leave it for a while. Here's the important bit - DON'T wet your hair. Rub your shampoo into your hair and give it a good massage. Then rinse with hot water. Gorgeous hair, many pounds saved.

Nooooooo do not try this!!! Be warned
i tried this years ago and it felt great at first, but after a day it did the worst kinda damage to my hair. The chemicals are too strong!!!.
