A friend is goign to to hospital for a week and id like to giver her something that will help entertain her rather than flowers. She has fought breast cancer and going for reconstruction so i guess would have restriced movement. I was thinking some handcream, puzzlebook, light hearted book like lies to tell your children etc!, Any other ideas.

Has she got, or can you lend her an MP3 player? You could load it with plays, stories, quiz shows etc (don't forget the Archers omnibus!) from BBC.
Wet wipes and bacterial hand gel could be useful too. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -
Hiya, may we at MSE wish your friend a speedy recovery!
My sugestions are pen and note paper/stamped envolope. Pck paper tissues, magazine.Pck biscuits and flask of coffee - the flask can be taken away for refills.sm pamering things like bubble bath/talc...change for the trolly/shop.
If she was my friend I would offer her the loan of my portable DVD player with headphones. My last hospital visits - the patient had a phone by the bed so I sometimes rang just to chat in the evening, I thought it was better than the trip to get there and then pay for hospital carparking...
all the best...JulieIf winter comes, can spring be far behind?

A nice bottle of squash (hospital water is all warm and horrible so the squash makes it so much better!), vaseline / balm for dry lips (because it's so hot in there). Maybe avoid "smellies" such as bubble bath / talc if she's had surgery as you're usually told to avoid them at first. The hand cream is a good idea though. Ask around your friends for a selection of pre-read magazines to get a selection of different types without you spending a fortune.0

eye mask and ear plugs, some nice socks, it it were me I would appreciate alittle bottle of room fragrance in one of my favourite smells, just so that I could have a little squirt, and it would remind me of things 'homely'. Hot water bottle - make the bed more cosy on a night?0

Facial spritz

slipper socks
Writing paper / notelets
Nice nightie / PJ's.
I am sure your friend will be soo pleased that you have gone to the trouble to think of something a little different from the norm - so whatever you give her will be fab.

Some bottles of evian I can remember
after my op when I was able to drink
the hospital water tasted terrible
a friend brought in a bottle of evian
water and I was so grateful.Because
you cant drink tea or juice after an
operation just little sips of water.:j:j:j0 -
I'd either buy her or rent from your local library some talking books. If she's feeling to tired or sore to read she could just listen to the book. I hope her operation goes well and she recovers quickly xxJanuary budget

Ear plugs ....I second that!
Also magazines as my concentration always goes, so magazines are easier to pick up and put down.
A body spritz with a light fresh smell.
Lavender oil to drop on pillow to help relaxing.
Some travel size shampoo/shower gel /lotions etc
Maybe a little bear or something if she likes them.:j I love bargains:jI love MSE0
