Baring in mind they will contact any medical referees you give directly,
I think in Margaret's case they couldn't have, there wouldn't have been time. I think the evidence she sent was so good the DM could decide on the claim form, past history and evidence supplied alone.
But your general advice, to brief and thank your named health professional is excellent. Regular readers will know I suggest sending them the Health Professionals Checklist at the back of the Free guides to claiming disability living allowance, attendance ... or Disability living allowance, attendance allowance , incapacity ... which ensures in your notes is a summary of your DLA care/mobility claims.

Just a thought. 3 (Hull & district) hospitals i have been to in the last 3 weeks have had posters & leaflets saying the patient has a right to receive copies any correspondance from their consultant. You just had to fill in a brief form and ask the receptionist at the outpatients dept. They then register you to receive copies(is this all to do with the freedom of information act?)

I didn't realise this was now possible, and I certainly haven't filled any form to register for this. I just thought: 'how nice that they now explain things in detail, point out the risks, tell you exactly what the options are, and when you go to see them, they show you the X-rays and explain in detail'. Much better than the old 'we know best' attitude that there used to be.

I'm not 'obsessive', but I do keep important letters, statements, documents, filed so that they can be laid hands on when necessary. We run this house as if we were running a business, and it's certainly easier - a few minutes every morning and things are in order, we both know where everything is.

I hadn't seen this before, and what an excellent idea it seems.

    Hi all

Well, the Disability Service people were as good as their word - they said they would pay me £60.60 before 25th July and lo and behold, it dropped into my bank account overnight! It's there this morning.

As it's to help pay for my 'needs' - my main need is a car that is more comfortable to drive. I intend to save it all up so that we can change our Fiesta with manual gearbox to something small, economical, easy to get in and out of, and with automatic transmission.

Apparently it will get paid along with my 4-weekly SRP. I'm really pleased with the speed and efficiency with which this has worked.

I've just come across this site relating to families with disabilities.

    http://www.family-friendly-fun.com/

Hope it proves useful to somebody.

*EDIT: This is a US site and doesn't contain any specific information about DLA applications. Probably only worth looking at if you have loads of time as there are more relevant UK sites around which are more user friendly. Sorry.*

I don't think it will be as I can't find anything to do with Disability Living allowance. Perhaps it might be interesting in another forum but I haven't yet found anything worthwhile relating to any Benefits so really feel it would be better moved. Or even better lost.

Sorry for posting the details here then. I will remember not to post anything here that isn't worthwhile in future.

How rude! There's no need for that.

There is a link to Barton Hill (UK site) under site map leading to info about DLA.

However, for other reasons it doesn't seem a very good site, firstly there are terms used that disabled people would find offensive, secondly I clicked on one link and then couldn't get back off it, thirdly there are so many ad's and banners it's confusing. I think some of it is probably of use to someone who wants to put the time in to find what they're looking for though as it seems to be a large site.

Anyone is free to post a site that they think might be useful, it doesn't necessarily mean they have checked it all and it is up to us as users to decide whether or not we find it useful and all opinions are welcome even if they differ.
