Hello eveyone,
it pains me to have to write about this subjct (no really it does).
Since having the last couple of children, I've suffered from piles (can't spell heammoroids).
Any suggestions on treating and preventing flare ups would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Karen

I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

Sorry I don't know much about piles....but you should see a doctor. It's embarrassing, but so are a lot of things that they see/hear every day."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
you can buy something called anusol from the chemists. and in true money saving style, if you wait until its quiet you could even as the oharmasist if they have their own make behind the counter which is probably cheaper!0

Piles are just varicose veins..only in the rectum. I also suffered following childbirth. The one thing you really must not do is get constipated.....eat plenty of fibre, drink loads of water. Perhaps it would be worth getting your Gp to refer you to see a surgeon if they cause you loads of grief, and if you suffer bleeding then you really must get it checked out, you could be anaemic. Honestly it really is common, no need to be embarrassed.0

Me old fella had is frozen off a few years back, gave hime great relief, think they came back, funnily enough doesnt talk about it. Best bet see the doc. Dutch courage:D0

Definitely one for the GP: s/he may prescribe something more effective than Anusol and s/he'll also ask the right questions to rule out anything more sinister than not enough fibre in your diet!Signature removed for peace of mind0

A quick relief not a permanent one if they are troublesome is to have a few baths a day ( I know it's hard for you Brits
) with a hand full of salt thrown in. It really works and is most soothing. Anusol is good too, but works better in conjunction with the salt baths. I had them really bad after my second child and after this treatment have never been bothered with them again. Ooooh I feel for you, they are sooooo painful.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
I would go and see the GP. I suffered a bad attack of piles a couple of years ago. The pain was so bad at times that I was in agony going to the toilet and it hurt sitting down. I tried Anusol, Preparation H and various other over the counter treatments, but couldn't get rid of them.
A quick visit to the GP confirmed I also had internal piles and they were not getting any benefit from creams rubbed on the outside. I was given a prescription for a course of suppositries.
It's not nice being examined by the GP, and the course of treatment wasn't very nice either. However it cured the problem very quickly and I haven't had any bother since.
In the mean time, eat plenty fibre and drink plenty water to keep everything soft and easy to pass. Don't strain as that makes it worse.
Hope you get it sorted soon, as I know how much of a misery they can be.Here I go again on my own....0 -
After 1st baby I was in such pain & it took 6 months for me to get back to normal. In the end (after 5 months of sheer agony) gp prescribed some disgusting granules that I had to drink & then boy did I go. This was after trying lactulose, suppositories etc. Piles disappeared after that but I was sore.
With baby no 2, I made sure I was regular & so far no probs.WW Gold Member, trying to maintain !!!Hayden born July 07Tabitha born April 05Poppy born July 030 -
OK, bottoms are the topic.... typical of us Brits to be embarassed about it... but... one word of advice... dont overdo the ointment, it can irritate the delicate skin... try a dab of vaseline or sudocrem!!! works wonders.
Also a great FREE tip i got from a dr which works crush some ice, place it in a flannel sized piece of material (hankie or flannel) and er... how can i say... er sit on it! can take a bit of wriggling around to get it in the right place, but apparently the cold reduces the swelling & soothes the area... sit on an old towel as well...
