you have to shove your hand in to dislodge it, earning yourself a flashing message saying, roughly, "don't shove your hand in!" and your adoring audience wanders away muttering!

Had that message! :D Blimey, I didn't mind the telling off, but it was like a time penalty; the time it took to return to accepting items again!!

"...one item at a time, please..."

    :)

Hi, The Tombora units are part of a gradually roll out to the business. They are used over convention units for several reasons. The key reasons are that they reduce the number of trips needed by the collectors, as the recycling material is shredded, and as such compacts more material into the same space. The tolerance of the sensors is such that they detect all of the difference material types ans sorts it into the respective bins, including waste, so as to ensure the correct materials go to the correct recycling body. Children in particular seem to enjoy the recycling experience of this unit.

    Not just children!
Mind you, it does remind me of the money back machines the Dutch used to have (still do?) for used glass bottles. I spent a large part of one childhood holiday roaming the streets of Amsterdam in search of bottles and mugging people who were innocently attempting to enter the shop to recycle their own bottles - ah, for the nerve of a 10 year old!

I was just coming to ask about points on these machines :D Our Tesco's have just installed one, although its not open just yet.

I was wondering how many points you get. It's probably worth me taking my green box down rather than leaving it out for the council now!!

I went for a reccy before Christmas and saw someone hurl in 60 items to get 15 points and thought, "Well, it'll be fun, and it's a way of getting rid of the plastic, but it will take ages to get enough stuff together to make the points worthwhile"
    WRONG!!!!!
nearly 100 points so far and another load blocking the back door as I type!
I don't have a machine near me so I factor a visit in whenever I'm passing anyway and find myself picking up stray tin cans and thinking "Another 1/4 point!" Someone on the wombling thread was accused of having no self respect well that's me too, and proud of it!

  • Has anyone discovered any of these recycling centres in Scottish stores.
  • Any one seen this one?

Couple go on honeymoon using airmiles from tesco recycling machines:

flies in the face of the green bit.
  • erm no self respect - what about the person who threw the can? Aren't you better wombling for receipts though? They might wonder why you've got so many credit cards after a while thinking about it.

I saw the article about the couple who paid for their honeymoon this way. Tesco are not venturing far up North or the wilds of rural Lincs.
