Mattresses - do you need a different one for bedsteads & divans?

Really need to buy a new mattress - does anyone know if certain types are more suitable for bedsteads, or do all types suit bedsteads and/or divans?
I've got a bedstead. And very little cash, so I'm thinking cheap is good.
Any quick advice - I've got my eye on one in my local department store sale (Sprung Slumber) so will probably get it tomorrow, but only if it's suitable. All the sales boy would say was "that's our starter mattress" a bit sniffily.
Thanks!

there are some which aren't suitable for both i think. got our new mattress from debenhams.com, which has a sale on and seemed somewhat cheaper than local stores like dreams.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0

Thanks, Woo, thought that might be the case. Think I'll check before I buy today. Being a Monday, hopefully I won't get lumbered with a weekend boy who knows nothing!0

Hi there, If the bedstead you have has slats , then you can put all mattresses except a pocket sprung mattress on them (apart from no turn pocket sprung mattresses which are ok.)
Alternatively to use a pocket sprung mattress on top you would need to place a sheet of hardboard down over the slats.
HTHIf at first you don't succeed - destroy all evidence that you tried.0
