king size electric blanket - any bargains out there?

My electric blanket has just died - but on my side only - OH's side is still toasty! Any ideas where I can buy a decent king size at a bargain price?

  • If you have an advantage card for Boots, there are coupons which give you 1000 points off, so that is the equivalent of £10. Not sure if they do KS though but they do doubles and I have one on my KS bed. It does leave a bit of a gap but not a problem for me.
There are three ways to get something done; do it yourself, hire someone or forbid your kids to do it.

  • Hi ya

Just a word of warning, DO NOT continue to use the blanket that you already have as it is malfunctioning and could prove to be a fire hazard.

Hope you find a cheap new one though.

Mooncake - isn't each side on a different 'circuit' as they both plug in seperately. I have switched OH's side on but left mine off - using a hottie at the moment as he won't let me put my cold feet on him!!

    Hi

I'm also looking out for the same sort of thing.. Are any of these blankets that people have listed dual control?
The ones they had in Aldi and TJ Hughes last year were only singled plug ones which have to heat up the whole of the bed not just one side. My husband only has his side on when it is really cold, but I have mine on much more. I need one with two plugs. Thanks.

I wouldnt bother if I were you. I've tried to have an electric blanket twice - first time it went in no time flat (but after the guarantee period had expired) and the second time I decided that maybe I would get a decent length of wear from it if I bought the most expensive one going - it lasted only 2 years and it turned out that the 3 year guarantee period accompanying it was pretty worthless (as shop only offered to repair or replace it under that guarantee - not refund it).

So - have given up the whole idea when I realised that my (2nd) electric blanket had cost me £70 and I had probably had about 20-25 weeks worth of use from it (ie winter use only). According to my maths - that meant it had cost me about £3 per user week + the electric to use it.

I am not prepared to have manufacturers take me for a ride - so I have now gone MSE on this and am using a blanket under bottom sheet and hotwater bottles and/or hairdryer to give the sheets an initial warm before getting into bed. At least - I'm not getting money whipped off me for nothing (well very little anyway) by manufacturers.
