vegetarian sites/advice

Hello, I don't want to become a 100% vegetarian but at the moment our household have meat most days and I would really like to try and make meat just an occasional thing. Problem is I really don't know where to start, I like beans but don't know how they can be used or pulses etc. I wondered if anyone knew of any sites that give out clear information and ideas, i can find sites with a few recipes but not so much advice on a balanced and varied diet. Thank you, :j

Hi there, the vegetarian society has a good section on nutritional advice for people eating a veggie diet and what foods contain the nutrients you need. http://www.vegsoc.org/info/basic-nutrition.html

As for recipes there are thousands of them out there and lots of people post them on here too. I'm fairly new to the board so can't point you in the exact direction but a quick search on here and you should find plenty of ideas.
  • Most libraries have piles of cookbooks, including lots of vegetarian. We do use Quorn too, mostly chicken-style, as it's cheap & tasty (meat-eating kids scoffed it without a quibble!) & marinated tofu (pretty tasteless without marinade!)

I started a thread recently about vegetarian recipes and got some excellent help, I'll just go and find the link..

Edit - looks like it has been merged: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=9284

Oh and yes, I get my recipe books from the library, write down ones which sound the best on paper, so I don't have to spend a fortune on a potentially bad book.
  • Here are a few sites you might like :

    http://www.veggieboards.com (a vegetarian/vegan forum with a sub-forum full of great recipies)

    http://www.vegcooking.com/

    http://vegweb.com/

Also check out charities shop. The ones in my local town always seem to have an abundance of vegetarian cookery books from about 20p - £1 (well atleast until i bought them all lol)

Another vote for VeggieBoards (I've been a member for about 4 years)...you can ask for advice on all sorts of subjects. VegWeb's recipe section is superior though, I fear. :)
