Laptop IBM T40 Repairs--freezing

Hi,
I have a general question about my IBM T40 laptop. My computer is working fine and everything is alright until I move it. Whenever I move the computer just a little bit it will freeze and lock or the screen will go blank. The only way is to get it back is to hold the power button down and reboot. I believe some IBM ThinkPad T40 motherboards have a manufacturing defect and I think in my case it is a bad BGA solder between the Graphic chip and the motherboad because there are many cases and symptoms just like my laptop.
So would you like give me some suggestion about where to repair it?
Who can help me troubleshoot the problem further and if the check result is the above I just mentioned, are they able to make a BGA? And how about the charge fee?
By the way, I do not want to replace the motherboad because it is too expensive.

What area are you in? I know someone who can look at it, but they're bases in Carrick. PM me for the details if you want them.Norn Iron Club Member No. 252 :beer:0

Have you tried the Lenovo website? Like all things IBM, they kind of overdo it, but sometimes it is helpful.0

Sorry I'm way too late in this thread to be of any practical assistance to the original poster (I've only recently discovered this site), but for anyone else who lands here looking for a solution to the Thinkpad T40 graphics chip BGA problem I've found at least two UK providers of the 'reflow' solution at the following urls:

Hope this is of use to someone - will post a review when I've tried one of these services.0
