Directed By John Ford is a DVD boxset that brings together four of the master director's films: The Informer (1935), The Fugitive (1947), Mary Of Scotland (1936) and Wagon Master (1950).
John Ford won four Best Director Oscars, including The Informer, more than any other director.
The Informer (1935)
Set in 1920's Ireland, starring Victor McLaglen as down and out rebel of the IRA, so desperate for money he goes off the rails. The Informer' was a big critical and commercial hit and ended up winning four Oscars; Best Actor, Best Music, Best Screenplay, Best Director!
The Fugitive (1947)
Based on Graham Greene's Novel (The Power and The Glory) about a revolutionary Catholic priest (Henry Fonda) on the run from an atheist government who denounce Christianity. Also starring Delores Del Rio and Pedro Armend!riz, Ford considered this one of his best films.
Mary Of Scotland (1936)
Based on Maxwell Anderson's play set in 16th century Scotland, starring Katharine Hepburn and Fedric March. A rare excursion by Ford into the historic costume drama, a very entertaining and rewarding experience.
Wagon Master (1950)
Ben Johnson and Harry Carey Jr play a couple of likeable cowboys who sign on to guide a Mormon wagon train to a valley in Arizona territory. Along the way they are joined by a medicine show, then a family of outlaws on the run. Ford doing what he did best, a good action packed Western featuring his favourite team of actors
