Hi,
Just needed to rant, looked on the state pension website and I will have to wait an additional 6 years for my state pension due to being 60 on the 13 April 2020 and the rules change on the 6th April 2020.
That's really made my day!

I think you will find the change is being phased in over several years. I am 60 in 2014 but won't get my state pension until I am 64. I don't think anyone born after 1955 will get their pension until they are 65.0

No one born after 6th April 1950 will get it on their 60th birthday, but it is phased in gradually.
I am one of the last (60th birthday in January 2010) who can still get it at exactly 60.

Thanks for that!0 -
It is true though that the change is down to the old system breaching equal rights. Although not in the usual sense. It was the men that complained trying to get the Govt to lower the state retirement age (how naive were they!) and the Govt responded by increasing the womens to age 65.
This is nothing new though. It has to be about 10 years since it was first announced. Plus, as others have said it is phased change and not a line drawn in the sand.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Lets not forget that they have raised the mens retirement age above 65
so much for equality!!!!!!!!!!0 -
They have to make the retirement age higher for Men and Women to make up for the younger generation who are too lazy to work!

But at least after 2010 if their wife has a better record than them, they'll be able to claim a bigger pension based on her contributions. At the moment only women can do that.Trying to keep it simple...0 -
