I went to Waitrose today and bought a Kabeno (sp?) with the intention of cutting it up and putting it in the slow cooker with some stock, carrots and potatoes, do you think it will work? I have seen loads of different type of sausages in Lidl but I dont know if they work the same way as "bangers" . I did try a piece of kabeno in Waitrose and it tasted v. good ,bit like salami. Any ideas, advice for future slow cooker events in our house involving these sausages would be greatly appreciated.
ps-Lidl have brockwurst(sp) on offer from £1.99 to 99p for about 10 sausages which I thought was good. Not tried them yet but again any advice appreciated.

Kabanos are smoked sausages, so they should work fine in a casserole in the SC. They don't need cooking in the same way that normal sausages do, and they're ready to eat cold if you want. I really like them in bean dishes, the smoky porkiness really works well like this: http://www.marthastewart.com/portal/site/mslo/menuitem.fc77a0dbc44dd1611e3bf410b5900aa0/?vgnextoid=402b1a55b890f010VgnVCM1000003d370a0aRCRD&rsc=also_try_p1
Bockwurst are typically boiled (they're similar in taste to frankfurters, only bigger) and I don't think they'd casserole as well, and bratwurst are more usually grilled (similar to a large butcher's sausage). If they have the little bratwursts (called Nurnberger rostbratwurst) definitely try them - they're lovely, like spiced chipolatas! Just serve them with some potato salad and red cabbage - yum!2015 comp wins - £370.25

if you like cabbage &/or saurkraut, they're very good with those, particularly in Bigos a Polish dish
I don't have time to post my recipe right now, but if anyone's interested, I'll do it when I get home later0 -
We cook Polish sausage chunks with fried red cabbage, onions and sliced apples and serve with mashed potatoes with a little whole-grain mustard mixed in with it. Don't think this mixture would work so well in a slow cooker though.0
