Finally had my lightbulb moment

Long time lurker, first time poster and last night gave me the confidence to finally register on here and try to see if there's any advice or anything anyone can give me to stop me feeling so low
I am not in as much debt as other people but sometimes it feels like it because I have no money coming in
I have a £500 overdraft on my bank account which I unfortunately live in and am £167 over the £1000 limit on my credit card which I cannot at the moment even afford to pay the minimum repayments on
All I want to do is clear my debts and start fresh, but I can't do this
Due to recklessness on my part I can't apply for another card cause I was regularly missing payments, but luckily I have no defaults or CCJ's.
I am unemployed and am not receiving any money from the job centre, although I am still signing on to receive my stamps. Reason behind this is they reckon I left my old job volunterally (sp) when I moved to live with my boyfriend.
He can't lend me any money as all his wages pay our rent/bills/food etc. He's paying for my mobile phone which is on the cheapest contract we could find
Any help any of you lovely people could give me would be gratefully appreciated, as we are looking to move house and I cannot put my name on the tenancy because of my poor credit rating
Thanks in advance

Hi Nunny
Sorry to hear about you situation, I'm not really sure how to help, I assume that you are job hunting? Is there any way you can join a temping agency to bring in some cash to start with?
Good luck xCurrent debt - £16,300

yup, i'm with all the agencies I can register with and ring on a regular basis
Is it worth me ringing/writing to the bank about my overdraft etc and asking if i can make regular interest free payments til I get a job/start getting money from the JC or is it not worth it?Sealed Pot Challenge Member 1216 -

How long has it been since you were out of work, I think you may be able to claim benefits after a period of time im thinking 6 months but not entirely sure. what do you mean by stamps?? You say you are signing on so you have an income at the mo? You could write to your creditors and ask for them to freeze the interest or if you are uncomfortable in doing this go the the CAB they are very good and will give you some good advice.0

Hi nunnygirl
You are at least trying to improve your situation by registering with agencies for work which is a step in the right direction.
But with no money coming in yet you don’t really have anything for your creditors. I would advise you at this point to write to your creditors explaining your situation and make them aware that you are actively seeking work to improve your circumstances, and ask if they would stop interest and charges at this point. Offer them a Token Payment for each debt of £1. This is a goodwill gesture to them to let them know you accept you owe them money but are unable to pay at present. Hopefully your boyfriend can help you with this.
With your overdraft you don’t want them to take any money you earn once you’re back into work, so you need to look at moving away from your creditors and opening a new basic bank account. Follow this link and scroll down to Everyday Money, and select the Basic Bank Accounts link which gives you details of accounts.

Once you have a income you can start making payments towards your creditors from your new account via a SO or over the counter payments. Do not give your creditors DD details for your new account as if they amend the amount they are taking it could leave you short for your essential living costs.
Hope this is helpful
