This is really portable at only 0.92kg and I'm pretty keen to get my hands on one. The only problem is that no one seems to have them in stock.

I agree, I bought one in December and recently took it on a trip to Australia, and to be honest even 0.92kg is quite enough additional weight in your hand luggage, and the size was ideal for fitting in a backpack. I think 2kg is just too heavy unless you are not going to carry anything else.

I presume he meant due to the 800x480 resolution.

On the MSE front page you'd see across as far as "family and health" and wouldn't even get as far down as the "WARNING...".

But that's just a badly designed page. Try changing the size of the browser when displaying this page, and you will see that it works just as well, because it's not fixed width.

Dismissing the Eee as fine for web browsing is a serious underestimation of it. For instance, it comes with OpenOffice - a suite as capable of Microsoft Office for 95% of users, and has some extra facilities to boot (like PDF creation). (OpenOffice is of course entirely free, and runs on Windows PCs and Macs [with a bit of fiddling] too.)
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.

This page isn't fixed width but it does have a minimum width.

The area that the forum is in is minimally 785px wide (according to the CSS) and the right hand bar is 210px wide.

Hence this page will have horizontal scrollbars on the EEE's screen.

I'm sure the EEE PC has its uses, but I'll be sticking with second hand Thinkpads for now.

I bought an Asus eee 4GB and I am really happy with it. It is very small, the screen is small and the keys are close together on the keyboard but that is not a problem for me. I went up and down Tottenham Court Road and got a great bargain. £239 and bought a 8GG SD card for it for £40 reduced from £70.

This was last weekend, I am not sure what the stock levels are at the moment.
  • Is a 8gig sd card a better idea than a 8gb usb flash stick?

Yes, because you can leave it in the machine all the time - you have to remove the USB drive when you transport the computer because it would be in danger of being snapped off.

Just be aware that if you want to transfer a 4GB or larger SD Card to another device it has to be SD HC compatible or you need a special SD HC Card reader. But I agree for normal storage use on the eee pc the SD card or SD HC Card is a better option.
