I recently rang up to ask for a pension forecast and was asked to ring back in a YEARS TIME, as they were having trouble with their new computer systems.

Its not a provider. Its the state.
The provision of forecasts is not possible due to a very well publicised update in their computer systems to take into account changes in pension legislation. To allow this to happen, they suspended forecast provision except for those within certain criteria (basically those close to retirement).
The downtime is expected to be between 12 and 18 months. This downtime is public record and was announced about 6-8 months before it was due to start.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I personally dont understand why its taking so long but like a lot of things over the last 10-15 yrs our government(Tory and Labour) and parts of the civil service seem to be incompotent in managing IT related projects.
We (the Public) are probably paying some private software company a fortune to do this... and whats the bet that when it is available it will crash or produce incorrect foreasts:mad:0 -
I wouldnt be surprised if the computer system they used couldnt be updated and they needed new software. Its a problem that banks, insurers and other old insitutions all suffer. No reason to think the Govt is any different except that they are less willing to spend on important things.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
