Inspiration please?

As a brand new moneysaver, in these early days, I can see there is a risk for me to 'revert to type' and go back to my old ways and over spend and/or whip out my credit card ....

Is my boyriends' 30th birthday next week (only been seeing him for 4 months) ... and I want to do something nice for him .... Is early days in my money saving, so I don't have a lot of money to fall back on to use for a gift/ restaurant ..... any ideas on what I can do/ get him so as not to undo my hard work and scupper my budget plans?

thanks

Why don't you cook a nice meal at home, with candles etc? Boring I know. Find out what his fav is. I'm sure he'll understand.
Why didn't someone kick me up the backside earlier:mad:

  • As above cook him a meal or maybe arrange a meal out with a big group of his friends and their partners (somewhere cheapish)

As for the reverting back to old ways start looking at the snowball everytime you want to buy something or have spread sheets set up.

I've been looking at my spreadsheets everyday which serves 2 purposes a) makes me focus on paying them off/see them move and b) stop me spending cause i dont want to undo the hard work im doing in getting them down!

How about a book of printed 'vouchers' where you fill in the 'gifts' - i know there is a site somewhere (didn't Triker use them for her OH's birthday a while back?)

You can type whatever you want on the vouchers and then print them off - ie - breakfast in bed, washing up done for a week, back massage, gardening done etc etc (I'm keeping it clean here!!!) and they can be 'redeemed' whenever he wants to!

I second the vouchers - they can be a lot of fun for you both!!!!!

If you want to give him something to open could you get him something small? Any books he wants to read, films he wants on DVD?

    Good luck
