Hi, I could have sworn I saw a post on here about someone going to Bonnie Scotland this weekend and offering to pick up little bits and pieces on behalf of fellow N.Irelanders in exchange for some pounds petrol/boat money. However, now the post has disappeared. Please will somebody confirm that it was actually here to start with, and therefore also confirm that I am not going potty... and if it was real rather than one of those figment jobs, who was the poster?

I read it, but perphas we are both dreaming!
Cant remember who it was?0 -
I can confirm you are not going potty.
I made the post, and at the same time PM'd the NI board mod to check that it was ok.
She said she had no problem with it (Thanks A_B) but suggested I should check with the MSE team, which I did. (Funny thing reporting your own post)
I'll quote below just so everyone knows what and why, I have no problem with the decision, I voluntarilly asked if it was ok, or not. I just don't want anyone thinking I'm some scam artist
Cheers, Des.
----message from me to MSE
I made a post in the Northern Ireland board and would just like to
check with the MSE team that it is ok.
I have checked with the board mod, and she is fine with it, but
suggested checking higher up
here is the link to the post:-

Unfortunatly I've had to remove it, not so much as it is advertising that
you would profit from, but we do not allow trading between out members in
public on the forum. Should there be any complications, we would be unable
to help and its safest for us to simply impose a blanket ban.
Sorry about that.
thanks

I noticed it too.........I think it may have been DesG.......but don't quote me I could be wrong.

Oops........seems I was right. Sorry DesG, cross posted with you.

And next time, I'll do the asking before I make the post before someone suggests it
I just did a search to try and find the original thread where we all discussed doing something like this with ikea, maybe 6 to 9 months ago, but I can't find it, I think it may have disappeared when the new software was installed.
Anyone else remember the discussion, or am I going potty!

I vaguely remember the thread, but I've done a search and can't find it either

Ah that explains it then. I don't recall seeing the earlier thread about trips to IKEA, but perhaps it is before my time as an MSEer.
Unfortunately as IKEA won't come to us, we have to go to it. Could anyone point me in the direction of any good deals for the crossing - I would like to take the car rather than easyJet it as I'll be buying some furniture as well as lamps and so on.
And to think I worked in IKEA in London and on leaving swore I'd never darken its doors again....now look at me...how a person changes!!!
Oh and what do you do about returns/faulty goods? Does IKEA help you out with your 2nd visit in order to correct a problem?
Are there any other retailers in the IKEA Glasgow area that we don't have and which would also be worth a visit to? Just to help with the planning you understand...I can't stand shopping, I think I've gone potty after all...
Thanks for your earlier replies everyone, much appreciated!0 -
I've been on the Stena day trips twice now and they are pretty good.
You are bussed from Belfast (Stena car park) to Ikea, Glasgow - have about 4 hours to shop in Ikea then back again that night.
You can get loads in the luggage compartment of the bus (it's the full length of the bus) and then either have your car/trailer in the Stena car park or get someone to meet you. Last time I was there I brough home four dining room chairs and a friend brought a table and four chairs!! if the bus you are on isn't full you can also use the spare seats to store stuff.
Our driver told us that someone once brought home a full kitchen!!
Just one tip for anyone going - make up some stickers with your name on it so you can find your stuff easily when they unload the bus
All for £26 return

Something I noticed on Ikea's website......Ikea's_Website wrote:New Edinburgh to Ireland service!
Stay seated and have everything delivered to your door.
First, browse through our products on this website, make your selection, then place your order by phone or email. A member of the Business 2 Business team will give you a tailored quotation which will include delivery details.
e-mail: b2b.Edinburgh@memo.IKEA.com
phone: 00 44 131 440 6625
fax: 00 44 131 440 6717
(available mon - fri, 9am - 5.30pm)
This service is exclusive to IKEA Edinburgh only.
I expect they'll charge the earth of course.
On a tangent, last time I was in Dublin, I'm sure there was some outcry on RTE Radio 1 that Ikea were coming to Ireland - not sure how far that got - presumably it was a typical planning dispute getting twisted by the media.....There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice0
