I Need Help - FAST

I signed up for a plumbing course on 11th December. A 'careers advisor' who afterwards reminded me of a double glazing salesman came round to my house, and I signed up that day.

Over the christmas period I got thinking, this guy didnt even tell me how I go about cancelling this contract (its £3000 over 3 years)
I began to get suspicious so rang a number I had for the course just before Christmas to cancel this. The woman gave me a number for the actual college and told me to ring after christmas.
On the 23rd I recived a copy of the contract I had signed on the 11th December, which to my regret I never read the small print.

I left the contract sat there till the 4th when I was planning on ringing the college. I rang and they said you need to cancel in writing within 21 days of singing the contract. Aghhh it had been 24 days already! So I sent off a letter straight away.

Now today I have just recieved a letter from Barclays saying 'Thanks for opening your Scheideggarr Mis account financed by us, first payment of £80 will be taken on 1/02/08'.

And now reading the small print of the initial contract I signed it says You have a right to cancel this agreement. You have 5 days starting with the day after you received this copy to send written notification. But it has gone past the 5 days.

Am I going to end up now paying 3 grand on a course I do not want to do? Is there no other way out of this? I feel the 'careers advisor' should have made the cancellation process clear to me but he changed the subject when he was asked.

  • Looks like you have to join the course then.
What's wrong with being a plumber - you can't fail to make money these days especially if you have a Polish trading name!

At the end of the day you sat on the contract until it was too late to cancel and then when you got the finance agreement through you did nothing with that as well?

Your last paragragh sounds like the old 'desperation' trick to me - hint of misselling of the course to wriggle out of it.

I would advise you seel legal advice through CAB immediately ( not in a few days but tomorrow) to see if they can see a way out for you.
  • Did you ring CAB?
