Procedures for clearing a debt...?

Just a quick question – Next month I finally clear 2 of my 4 debts, 1 with MBNA and 1 with Clydesdale, sadly they are the 2 smaller of the 4 but it’s still a good thing!
What’s the best way to ensure these are settled properly, should I call them to establish exactly what the final payment amount is, get them to write to me confirming that it will be my last payment and cancel the DD after the money has gone or is there a better way of doing this?
Thanks

Hiya, if you pay the full statement balances by the due date, that should clear them in full providing you haven't used the cards recently. Then I would write to them asking them to close the account - they should send you confirmation along with a closing statement."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250
