Going on for 2 years ago now...
• I think she must be feeling guilty and has become a latent member of MSE.

She can now be found advertising Farmfoods where all MSE members should know you can great frozen food for a lot less than most other major supermarkets!

What I don't understand is why haven't we heard from Martin about this? He must have heard about the interview by now (it was a week ago, on national radio). She was clearly IMPLYING that he'd accepted comissions for consolidation loans, even if that wasn't precisely what she said (perhaps she's not totally stupid after all). So why hasn't Martin posted to say: 'just to be clear on this, I have NEVER accepted any such comission (but yes we have click-throughs on the site etc etc etc)'.

Martin is very professional and most certainly wouldn't start any sort of tit-for-tat response. In this case I don't think Martin has any duty to respond, but I think Carol clearly did when the petition was started due to the gravity of the problem and issue - but she chose to ignore it.

Sorry - because I hate to disagree with anyone - but I REALLY disagree with you here. It IS Carol who is selling the products! She is exploiting her reputation as an intelligent woman, good with numbers, down to earth, etc etc to give these products more credibility than they deserve. If it wasn't any good, that nice Carol Vorderman wouldn't be advertising it. What she is doing is immoral and she [strike]should[/strike] does know better. She is making money out of the people who are not financially savvy. It's despicable.

And to say Martin is in the same game is just p*** poor. She knows he isn't and that's just a weak defence to raise suspicion. Pathetic.

Okay -rant over. Sorry Rafter but my ire was raised!

Cazziebo,

No problem - I totally agree with you!

As I said, it is about trust. People trust Carol to be financially savvy and this gives credibility to FirstPlus. Carol is only doing the ads for the money though - not for the lifeline that secured loans may give 5% of customers that could actually benefit.

In your opinion she is being immoral, but she is not breaking the law.

In my opinion it is the government and regulators who are at fault for allowing such dreadful products to be sold and marketed in this way for so long.

Personally I'm not a big fan of farmfoods either! They can only sell super cheap food if it has been produced in less than ethical conditions, however legal.

R.
Smile :), it makes people wonder what you have been up to.
• There's something on the Guardian site mentioning her adverts today:

So now instead of you just thinking what CV said you say she was clearly IMPLYING something, obviously you haven't listened again to the interview as was suggested to you.

Martin has no need to clarify anything as it is posted on every every article and is quite clear here how the affiliate links work within MSE and how the site is funded.

You'll also find at the end of the Secured Loan article the following....

Special Note: As I regard these as loans of last resort, any revenue raised directly from this article is donated to the MoneySavingExpert.com charity fund, which includes a debt help charity. However, please don't let this make you feel more inclined to take out a secured loan. Only do it if having followed the MoneySaving logic it is correct for you.
