Wedding rings

Where did you get your rings from?
Did you get matching ones?

I have my engagement ring which i chose and love! the jewellers have the matching wedding band which is very simple white gold and compliments the engagement ring perfectly BUT
Df says we should maybe buy cheaper one and then save for these when we gat back (we are getting married on a cruise so lots to pay for)..
What would you do..save and re buy or just really try and save and get them before we go..not sure what we will do with the 1st lot of we go get another set!!
Thanks

TBH I would try as hard as I could to save for the one's I really wanted, it would make the whole thing so much more special. And be honest with yourself, once the pressure of saving for the wedding is over would you really ever get round for saving for a new ring when there's already one on your finger?

Another option is deciding on the style of ring you want and going somewhere like the jewelry quarter in Birmingham where there are loads of jewlers competing for your money and willing to make things to order at a fraction of high street costs. Thats what me and my OH plan to do. ;)

We were planning on getting matching ones... but in a high street jewellers OH saw a titanium ring with a coloured stone that he loved so he got that and I got a white gold ring in the same shop.

My engagement ring is quite unusual so I didn't want anything too major as a wedding ring, just something that went with the engagement ring and looked nice.

Doesn't matter how much it cost - it's the vows and the marriage that are most important. ;)

My wife just had to get replacement engagement and wedding rings as some thieving scum stole hers.

It was really hard for her to choose replacements, obviously. She did look at some matching sets but in the end decided against it. She nearly got a very simple wedding band that matched very well with the engagement ring, but in the end decided on a gold/white gold mix for the band, that complements, rather than matches, the engagement one.

What she decided (and I agreed) was the matching ones matched too well, and you could hardly tell she had 2 rings on. Obviously, this is a matter of personal taste!

My OH and I haven't got matching rings. He likes the celtic design so he's got that in white gold. I'm not as keen so I've got a plain white gold band with a small square diamond in the middle. Keeping them in the drawer as we aren't getting married til August!

Have either of you got birthdays coming up? Maybe you could ask for money to go towards the rings?

  • I was a little bit gutted recently because Ernest Jones had a plain palladium band in the online sale for a money saving bargin £55 but I didn't know my ring size (my engagement ring had to be resized because I am somewhere between a J & a K) but by the time I got to the jewellers to do it, they didn't have it store & the sale item had gone from their website :( So now we have decided to buy 'token' rings for our ceremony & either buy rings on our honeymoon. (Mr LGM loves anything to do with ancient Egypt so would like a ring with Hyrogliphs (sp) on it.) or save up & buy rings to exchange on our first anniversary.

When I got married 2 years ago we didn't get around to choosing a ring, it was a secret wedding & we didn't want the hassle so hubby just slipped my eternity ring (which he had bought me some years previously) on my finger. around November last year later I found the perfect ring, (a havey court platinum ring from Bay Rings) and hubby bought me that as my Xmas pressie (How money saving am I??). Now I just wear that one, eternity ring hardly sees the light of day, But if I hadn't found the wedding ring I would have been quite happy to keep using my eternity ring. I didn;t have an engagement ring either. After a earlier divorce a few years ago I am fully aware that the best ring in the world doesn't make the marriage!
  • I have quite an unusual engagement ring which we bought in Goa last year so am having problems finding a ring to sit next to it.

Thanks for the mention of bay rings ymk101. They have some lovely designs on there. Need to show OH now as this is his job

It might sound strange but QVC are a good place to look for rings. Not sure about plain wedding rings but engagement rings. My mate showed me her lovely ring yesterday and explained that she had seen it on QVC but it was sold out, they must have had it again because her fiance bought it and put it on her finger on Christmas Day.

I have bought dress rings from them too and they have been good quality, hallmarked goods.
