Children's saving accounts?

I wondered if anyone had any advice - I am searching for a regular savings account for my daughter who is just 16 months old - we want to open something to put her birthday/xmas money in that she can use when she gets older - we already have a child trust fund set up i just want somehting simple for her.

I have been looking at some of the accounts on offer and they all seem too complicated - I want something with a savings book so she can see her money grow each time she puts it in - is there any of these old style accounts out there still?

Some I have looked at some and they give the child a card and PIN when they are 7 but before that withdawals have to be made by cheque or credit transfer - can anyone recommend something simpler for now? i'm not too bothered about interest rates and gimicky gifts it's more for her to understand the idea of saving for when she's about 4/5. She has a grand total of £80 to invest! any ideas. thanks

    Hi romum

I have halifax save4it accounts for my boys. You get a savings book and the interest rate has been consistently good. Its a really simple account. Mine got one of the old fashioned money savers for opening - the one which saves 1p's, 2'ps, 5p's etc.
I really like this account because you can link it to a halifax regular saver which has a fantastic rate of 10%. You can save by direct debit between £10 and £100 a month and after 12 months the money goes 9with interest) into the save4it. I use this instead of my boys trust funds as I worry about putting regular savings into a stocks/shared based fund.
    Hope this helps
