I have noticed at the local Tesco that there is a collection point for old/damaged plastic carrier bags.
Does anyone know what happens to them?

I found this on an American Recycling sitePlastic bags are recycled into many different products. Most plastic bags are recycled into composite lumber but can also be reprocessed into small pellets, or post consumer resin, which can become feed stock for a variety of products such as new bags, pallets, containers, crates, and pipe.0

Some of them may be made into other bags or even fleecy jumpers0

Outside some Waitrose stores you see benches that have been made by recycling their bags for life. Also remember some other plastic packaging can be put in these bins - in particular, I noticed that on the bag around sainsbury's toilet rolls it says they can be recycled in the plastic bag bins instore.0

Thanks for that Morg - do you know how we can tell which can go in for example the wrappers around newspaper supplements. Thanks DustyThe birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0

Hm difficult, i've never found a good answer to that. I guess you could try emailing someone in management at the supermarket in question for a definitive questino. I tend to go for "feel" - if it feels like a carrier bag or toilet roll bag I put it in. The toilet roll wrapper is the only thing I've ever seen that says "put me in plastic bag bin".0
