Lost/Stolen my number plate

Jsut realised in the morning that my car number plate(rear) was missing. I lodged a complaint with police just in case. I've to use my car this evening before I can get a new car plate (I can only get one tomorrow as they require car documents and other proofs which are at home). So my question is - can I do a temporary printout of the number and stick to car? Its only for tonight.

Not 100% sure but I think if you get pulled over by the police when using it tonight you can just explain and they should let you go - you could try printing it out and putting in the rear of your car, but I know that number plates have to be a regulation size/font for visibility!0

I would imagine that in the unlikely event of being pulled, the worst they are likely to do is issue a notice to get the problem rectified in, say, 14 days (which you're going to do anyway).
When you consider your offence would be no different to all the idiots who have number plates in fancy writing or change the spacing to spell their name and the police never seem to anything about them!0 -
I wouldnt bother you have notified them of the theft
They could do you just the same as your temporary one wouldnt be reflective anyway.
Hope this helps0 -
we had both our license plates stolen back in september, and reported it to the police in case they were used for petrol drive thru's (who can blame 'em with the current extortionate rise) etc.
unfortunately for us, we had just bought the car, so all the documents we needed to go buy the plates were still with the DVLA
we tried to avoid using the car where possible until we got new plates. but take a note of your crime number and keep it in the car just in case you get pulled overknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Or...if this doesnt pull the cops, for any aparrent reason, they may issue you with a slip-cant remembr what you call it, and you basically have to get your number plate made and then take it to your nearest police station with the slip to proove that you've got a new one!
remember, to get a new number plate made you need to show documents to the maker by law now! (well, since jan 2003)
you need to present:
1) a photocard driving licence
OR
bank or building society statement, or a utility bill(gas water electric)
AND
2) your proof of vehicle entitlement:
basically your log book (V5 document)
sorry if im a bit late!
