hi, im a newbie here with a problem...
last year my wife and i split. she moved house. but we reconciled and she moved back at christmas.
however, when she moved, and her address details changed, for some reason the bank((abbey) updated my details saying that I'D changed address too.
all my correspondance with the bank kept going to her new address.
numerous calls and visits to the branch, it still want sorted.
finally they do it, and my address shows as my address again.
i applied for a loan, and got knocked back, having never been before. so i applied for another one, same result.
then i find out that, this is a cause of my knock backs. i have been giving my address as me living there for last 4years as requested on the forms, but my records show that i moved house for some months last year, when in fact i never did, it was a bank error.
i have a letter from them, as i demanded one, saying they were in the wrong and it was their error.
but now, i cant get a loan anywhere because it seems of this. i have never had bad credit at all, never had bad debt either. but we had some insurance problems when a ceiling collapsed while decorating and the insurance wouldnt pay. (natural wear and tear they called it!)
so it had to be payed on the credit cards. so i want a loan to lower the costs of repayment, as i cant get a 0% credit card balance transfer either now.
what can i do?

I'm pretty sure there's a way of fixing incorrect details via a credit agency - though judging by the info from Equifax page they want you to get a copy of your report from them before launching any kind of dispute:
How to Dispute
If you have a recent report from anyone else they should be able to help too, though I've never tried it myself and don't know how long it takes. It should be possible though, since the bank have admitted their mistake to you in writing.0 -
The quickest way is to log onto https://www.equifax.co.uk and obtain your Equifax report - it costs £8.25
This gives you
Immediate online access to your user-friendly credit report
Details of credit cards and loans opened in your name
Complete breakdown of your payment history
Negative account history to identify items that may be adversely effecting you
Record of companies that have reviewed your credit file
Online dispute feature to help you fix errors quickly and simply
Educational tips to help you better understand your report
Access to this snapshot of your credit report for 30 days - this report does not update
If you find anything appears to be incorrect you can Raise a dispute over anything that is incorrect.
I have just done it over a minor detail on my report - and it was resolved and amended within 2 -3 weeks.0
