    Why not freeze them?
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I make my own croutons & store them in a kilner jar in the cupboard & they last me about a month to 6 weeks.

This is the only croutons thread that showed up on my search (I know I'm hopeless but I do try :o)

Can I ask how do you actually make home made croutons?

    Thank you, as always :)

When I'm making them I cut stale bread (usually crusts) into cubes and put on a baking tray in the oven on a low heat for half an hour or so just to dry them out so they go crispy.

If I'm making flavoured ones I put either mixed herbs, garlic or onion powder on them before baking.

Once baked and cooled I store them in a re-sealable plastic bag in the cupboard.

  • as long as they are totally dried out in the oven, I find breadcrumbs and croutons keep for ages in the cupboard. They seem fine in an old ice cream tub
