going self employed

if this is in the worng bit please move me :o

ok so i have decided to go self employed as a beautician were do i go from here with tax and things like that?:think:

sorry just i have no clue what so ever and know one to ask :huh:

i havnt started yet i will be starting up in a couple of weeks


any help or advise is very welcome x

    Contact the tax office to let them know.
    And the NI people.
    Start keeping all your receipts in a safe place.
    If you are a mobile beautician, keep mileage records.

    As well as the above, keep a really careful note of all your clients pay you - ideally pay it all into the bank and then draw out cash as you need it. Never be tempted to use any cash they pay you for personal spending, as that is an easy way to get caught out if it turns out you have forgotten to record what they paid. Remember that if HMRC ever check your accounts, they will certainly ask for your diary and price list and work out from that what they think you should have earned.
    Don't forget non tax issues e.g. insurance if something happens to a client, or changing your home insurance to take account of your business (even if you are mobile, they would need to know if you are keeping stocks of materials and equipment at home). Your car insurer also needs to know you are running a business using the car.
