This is approx what I use. I melt gently in a saucepan though, I wouldn't have the patience for a bowl of hot water. I would always use butter for this.

I have made many birthday cakes with this in the past, most kids prefer it to sponge in my experience and it doesn't collapse when you cut into it... remember when Pokemon were the thing and I did a cake for the kids for a joint birthday party!

melt 4oz butter, 4oz toffees (I used werthers), er4oz of marshmallows in a smallish non stick saucepan on a medium heat, stir a bit so everythings melts and doesn't stick or burn. then pour over 5 or 6 oz of ricecrispies in a medium sized bowl. Stir everything together, it's quite hard work and you think it's never all going to come together but it does.
Tip out into tray pat down to the thickness you want, then leave in the fridge for a short while to chill and set. Don't leave in there too long or the crispies get damp. take out and cut into bars, squares, store in airtight tin.
I loved these and I don't usually like sweet things. I also added a dab of melted chocolate on the top of each square. This would alsobe Ok if you put a spoonful into a small paper cake case for a more rustic look
