Got A Small Lousy PayRise - Should I complain to HR?

Hi,
I ve had good feed back from this board in the past and I dont know what to do.
I joined a law firm as a graduate and have been there for two years - We were all told that we would be getting the same pay rise because we were still 'graduates'.
I was on 38,500 before the pay rise - I asked others who were on the same training trip as I was and they have all gone up to 45K but I was moved to just 40K.
I suspect this is down to me asking to move internally to another team and getting screwed over.
Should I complain to HR and ask them for a pay rise to 45K like all the others? I feel cheated in many ways
The salary might sound a lot but its work in London and I have an offer from another place which is guaranteeing me 45K - I want to say at this company becuase I did a long training trip with lots of other students and I quite enjoy it there.
Ideas?

Do you deserve £45K? If so, present a business case to HR. Complaining will get you nowhere.Gone ... or have I?0

They aren't obligated to give you a certain pay rise.
So really it depends on whether you think speaking to HR will make a difference. Also if you belong to union you could always ask them for advice too."A bank* is a place where they lend you an umbrella in fair weather and ask for it back when it begins to rain."
(*Unless it's Santander. The branch says they sent you an umbrella 3 times already and don't understand why you don't have it yet and want it back right now!!!)0 -
will it have been HR who decided on your payrise, or will it have been your line manager? i genuinely don't think that telling them you know what other people got and you want the same will help matters at all. if it is because of a 'problem' with a lateral move, and if the payrise is performance dependent, then they can probably just say tough. if you like the place and this is your first job, you have to decide if it's worth staying a bit longer and hoping for a greater payrise next year to keep in line with everyone else is a risk worth taking or whether leaving so quickly from your first job will look bad on you CV in the long term.:happyhear0

4% payrise? small and lousy? I'd be getting used to them in the current climate0
