BR and living with parents

Hi guys

1st post and can i jusy say this forum is an absoutle live saver

couple of queries though

Ive got an appoinment with court to declare myself BR on 24.01.07

everything seems quite straight forward however ive been scared a bit by some things ive read about IPA

unfortnatly im back living with my parensts after a disaterous relationship and a period of poor health, Im likley to be here at least another 6 months at a guess.

Although I am back with parents its far from the case that ive got no outgoings. I buy my own food, and the only way they can afford to have me here is if i pay half of all bills gas elec etc which im doing

Will the OR take account of this?

also before taking some advice I stupidly opened a basic co-op account, will this now be useless or will i be able to keep it as i dont owe them a penny

thanks!

Your SOA lists your expenditure as it is, so if you are paying towards the household expenditure, that should be no problem and spending on food. Put up a statement of Affairs and folk will help you sort it.

Hi and welcome to the board.

If you are paying towards things then you must list them on your I&E.

If you opened a Co-op cashminder account then it may be frozen for a couple of days but a quick call to the OR will help. He will ask them to unfreeze it and away you go. If it is another of their accounts then they are quite reasonable and they will give you time to open the cashminder. They are very BR friendly.

Some people have rung the Co-op in the morning and told them they are going BR and then given them the details when they got home and have had no problems.

hi its defo a cashminder just checked (with visa electron)

The branch is 5 mins awya from the court so i think i'll go in staright after ive been made BR and tell them

thanks for the welcome and advice.

Im certainly going to put doen all my I+E my only concern is that it isnt something i can necessairy prove due to my circs. Does the OR require proof?

I dont have a rent book or rent agreement (as im living with parents)

I really dont want my parents to know either (at least at this stage)

  • As you're living with your parents, the OR won't expect you to have a rent book or any kind of tenancy agreement - explain your situation to the OR, & I think they'll accept that you're paying normal amounts of "keep" to live in the home. It's a good 20 years since I lived with my parents, but even then I paid a third of the bills & what I thought was a large amount of rent (I'd be doing cartwheels if I could pay that amount now). I'd also tell the OR that you don't want your parents to know & why, & my guess is that they won't contact them at all unless they really need to. :)

    Hiya

I went BR last January and the process in the court involved speaking to the OR by telephone. During the call, I was asked if I had an active bank account and I said that I had just opened a basic account with Nationwide. I was told that the account would be fine as they understood I needed it for wages etc, they just advised me to pop into the branch and let them know as soon as poss. I went there straight after the court and Nationwide said it was fine because I couldn't get into any debt with that type of account so no problems.

With regard to your parents, I actually had very little post from the OR, only stuff to do with the mortgage and house and the letters I got didn't advertise the fact that they were particularly official so I doubt whether you parents will notice anything amiss.

    Good luck
