Single/Joint annuities

Does the difference between buying a single life annuity and a joint one generally mean a big difference in income?

It depends on what percentage of income the survivor will get (50%? 100%?), plus the age and gender of the survivor.
You can use these annuity tables to play around with the figures:

Link is correct to the FSA tables site, it loads for me but when you click on 'go to tables' the result is "Unfortunately, our site is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later". I assume it is temporarily down?
