Instagram newbie
I've never really used social media before but I've been having serious FOMO recently as there are so many Instagram comps. So today I've taken the plunge and set an account up.
I have a couple of questions if that's okay. I think I understand the like and follow part, but I'm a bit stuck with the fag a friend..... I don't have any friends, do the comps always ask for his to be done or are there some that don't? I could set my hubby up with an account if this is always a requirement.
I was reading that scammers might contact you to say you're a winner, is this something I need to read up about?
Any help for an Instagram newbie would be much appreciated, I feel a bit out of my depth.

Most insta comps will require you to tag a friend (sometimes more than one friend too!). There are various comping communities which do permit you to share IG names to find comping friends, however it's not allowed on MSE as it's against the rules to give identifiable info on posts.
Some comps require you just to 'like' - these are few and far between as posts generally get more engagement if they're being widely shared.
Scammers can contact you to say you're a winner. Usually they will ask you to fill in info via a link. Another way to check is to go onto the page that has messaged you and check if you're following them or not. You'll likely not be following the scammer.
A tip I would also recommend is to make your insta page look genuine - i.e. upload photos, don't just share comp posts on your story. Brands are supposed to be fair when picking winners (i.e. randomly or the best entry if judged) but there's no way to prove if a brand is cherry picking a potential winner and I'd imagine they'd be less likely to choose accounts which look inauthentic in nature.
