I am looking for a microwave to replace using my fan oven.

i want all the usual microwave heating use, plus ability to cook a steak pie for example or do a cottage pie that makes the top slightly crispy

on argos the cheapest one is about £110 but this on amazon appears a lot cheaper and a good make, am i missing something?

Showing as £124 to me so more expensive than the argos one

The £60 is not a comi-oven, its a microwave/grill combination without the oven capabilities. Amazon are never great at describing things well when they have different models on the same listing

It would reheat a pie ok, microwave doing the filling and the grill returning the top to crispy state but you arent going to be able to cook raw pastry with a grill

In most cases combi models are a notable compromise on each element. We did look at a combi-oven/microwave but it just didnt seem to add much advantage, almost everything took the same cooking time. Jacket spuds were one of the few exceptions and as a solo microwave or oven it falls short of a dedicated unit

i want to stop using the fan electric oven in my rented flat and just use a microwave

most meals i think are ok with a normal £50 microwave

i guess i would need the oven element for pies, pastry, jacket potatoes to go crispy etc?

argos does a russel hobbs one for £125 that looks like it does it all?

It depends… a jacket potato you could do… microwave only to start with then change to microwave/grill or grill only and turn the spud over a few times

Pastry will reheat ok, wont cook properly if raw. Things like the tinned pies are somewhere between the too and the results are likely to be as well.

Why are you aiming to stop using the oven?

thats good but is it just a grill and not an oven also? is it worth for an extra 25 to get the full combination including oven?
