South Yorkshire Pensions confused
hi guys i had an email from SYP saying this
Good Afternoon
I am writing with regards your recent Annual Deferred Benefit Statement We have identified that your statement does not include all of your pension membership, which means the benefits shown on your statement are incorrect. We are working to correct this and, once we are in a position to recalculate your benefits, we will issue you with a revised statement.
You do not need to take any action at this time. We apologise for any concern or inconvenience this may have caused.
This was about 4 weeks ago, i don't know if my benefit statement is correct or has changed in the meantime because i couldnt log in due to forgetting pwd being busy etc. I worked for 2 different schools for a few years and they've merged them but what could this mean?

When did you leave and how old are you now?
Sounds like they carried out a review of your records (McCloud?) and found an error. Unpicking your record and then correcting it won't be a 5 minute job and, I'm afraid to say, unless you are waiting to claim your benefits it won't be on the top of the 'priority' pile. Give it another month before asking for an update. On the bright side, it sounds like your revised estimate will be higher than the old.

Hi - I won't officially leave the scheme until May 2027 - my official retirement age when i get my state pension.
I just get worried about this stuff because I don't really understand pensions - does that mean the annual statement for 2026 was incorrect and i should wait now?
Thanks for your response - much appreciated.

Sorry I was 66 this month but I'm still working and have to wait until next May to get my state pension.

They have identified an error, they will send put a new statement in due course. As you have a few months before retirement nothing to concern yourself, unless there is a risk the amount will be reduced, but as it states they haven't included all your service this shouldn't be the case and it will be increased.
It could be a merged records issue, a McCloud judgment calculation or something else - local government pay increase was only agreed in August. Just ensure you know your periods of employment in the schools so you can ensure the dates match.1 -
Why are you getting a Deferred Benefit statement if you haven't left the scheme yet? Are you still an active member with contributions going into the scheme? Or do you have a period of service from the past which is in the scheme separate from your current membership?

Then it could be any of the things daveyjp mentioned, or something else. I really wouldn't worry about it at the moment.
