Navigating between old and new job
Hi all,
Looking for some advice in regards to my husband who's work place has become so toxic he had to step away and go on sick and not return.
Since going on the sick he has applied for different jobs and he has been offered a job. He has signed an offer letter stating his hours, location and pay along with a document in how bonuses will be repaid if he leaves within certain period. He has since submitted his right to work documents and also proof of driving licence via an online portal. He emailed the new place has he hadn't heard since and they got back to him said that everything is going smoothly and he will get a contract and HR onboarding soon but they can't see any issues with that.
He has a meeting today with his current work to discuss his future as in potentially moving sites. He is under a union and a rep will attend but do you think its safe to say can we discuss a mutually agreed leaving date earlier than the contractual notice period. Reasoning is that there is no point in training him at the new site under a phased return when he will leave anyways. His sick note runs out at end of the month and his new place is asking if he can start earlier than the pencilled in date.
Would you say its safe to start negotiating a leaving date at his current place because he has signed an offer letter. Any advice will be appreciated.

There is no harm in asking, but do not mention the new job at this time. The potential new employer may need references anyway, so the current employer is likely to find out at some point.

Hi
Current employer provides us with automatic generated reference with start dates, pay and confirm he was employed there. We can assess it ourselves. Also new employer wants him in asap and already pencilled in date early November.

Perhaps he should be talking about 'constructive dismissal'?

We been through alot because of what's happened and affected my job too. Thankfully I have had supported colleagues and management. But we want to put eeyrthing he went though in the past because dragging it all back up will just stress him out more. He is finally back to him normal self which taken a while to do during his sick period.
He wants to look forward not back.

Not if he's got any sense - incredibly difficult to pursue and almost never ends well for the ex-employee.
