This did make me chuckle

Back OT, I think this hits the nail on the head. I've been on this board well over a decade and never once have I assumed that a post asking advice about a large pension pot is bragging. Perhaps they were, but I didn't see it that way. But then, I'm never envious of those with more than me. I'm happy with what I have and if people have more, good luck to them.
It probably says more about the people who assume it is bragging, ie they are jealous of those with more money. Doesn't surprise me the DM is among them, IIRC it was taken off TV for being too politically biased even for the BBC 🤣
They should do a followup article based on this thread. Someone should send it to them. They'll see it as Thatcher's now grown up Yuppies laughing at a piddly £900k pension pot 🤣

This forum is unusual as bragging is fairly rare. The people with most may occasionally have a moment to crow about it but it rarely crosses over into their advice.
My pension is relatively meagre compared to some here, but the advice given has never shamed me for that, and has almost always focused on whether what I have is enough, rather than why it should be more, if I'd only done things differently. The forum has also helped me to see that my smaller pension is still considerably larger than the average.
Very occasionally I see some advice that simply doesn't apply to me because I don't have enough anticipated pension to make it valuable, but I don't take it personally.
I left the university sector because of the continual pension cuts. If I'd been a member here earlier in my life I would have left sooner. It took me a while but I figured that out for myself eventually.

There is the occasional sneering at people living on a low income (as Sea Shell experienced in her excellent diary thread where she was brave enough to lay bare her finances), which is a shame as this board is just as much for them as for people wanting to know how to mitigate the LTA/LSA and how much of their 6 figure income they can put in their pension etc.
I suspect some people who intend retiring on a low income eg sub £20k for a couple may get put off posting here when they see things like that and others discussing their £million pot etc.
