USB turntable

I have been asked to buy a USB turntable as a present.

I am a technophobe, so please tell me if I am wrong, but my understanding that these play and record vinyl records thru your PC?

Also - which is the best model?

You're are correct about playing vinyl through your pc - you can then play your old records and make them into Cd's or Mp3s and play them on your ipod. I know maplin sell these, they were about £120, but I think they were in the sale for £99.99. HTH

There has to be a cheaper way.

Couldn't you use a normal 3.5mm output/input lead? I suppose it depends on what inputs your sound card has.
